Côte Clifton Village
Nestled in the heart of one of Bristol’s most charming neighbourhoods, Côte Clifton Village at 27 The Mall offers a warm, elegant escape into the flavours of classic French cuisine. The moment you arrive, there’s a sense that this isn't just another bistro-it’s a place where mornings begin with golden croissants, afternoons are punctuated with delicate wine pairings, and evenings unfold with the timeless drama of steak frites and crème brûlée.
The restaurant fits beautifully into the Clifton aesthetic: chic yet understated. Whether you're sliding into a booth for solo brunch, sipping espresso on the outdoor terrace, or settling in for a three-course dinner with friends, Côte delivers consistently polished service without ever feeling too formal. The wheelchair-accessible layout and cozy seating make it both inclusive and intimate-a rare balance.
Let’s talk food. The French Onion Soup is a masterclass in simplicity and depth. Served bubbling hot with golden, gratinéed cheese melting into a slow-cooked broth, it sets the tone for what’s to come. Then there’s the Sirloin Steak, seared to your liking and accompanied by crisp, golden fries-an essential order if you're even mildly carnivorous. Prefer something from the sea? The Pan-Fried Sea Bass is delicate, flaky, and elevated by citrusy notes that feel refreshingly light.
For the indecisive, the Charcuterie Board is a generous sampler of French favourites: saucisson, duck pâté, and a range of cheeses that pair brilliantly with a glass from their impressive wine list. Speaking of which, this place takes its wine seriously. Whether you're in the mood for a bold red to cut through the richness of a Steak Tartare, or a crisp white to complement Moules-Frites, the staff offer thoughtful recommendations that never feel upsell-y.
Brunch-goers are also in for a treat. The Côte Breakfast is the real deal-smoked bacon, sausages, eggs, tomato, mushrooms, and sourdough toast, all done with unmistakably French flair. Or go lighter with the Eggs Royale, served with a perfectly poached egg and hollandaise so silky it could pass for dessert. If you’re in the mood for a morning cocktail, the Mimosa is a must-bright, bubbly, and generously poured.
Those with a sweet tooth should not skip dessert. The Crème Caramel and Lemon Tart both offer just the right balance of sweet and tangy, but it’s the Chocolate Soufflé that gets people talking. Served warm with a soft, gooey center, it feels like the grand finale to an already indulgent experience. Pair it with an Espresso Martini, and you’ve officially reached Côte-level contentment.
There’s also something to be said about the thoughtful touches: the free water refills that keep coming without asking, the consistently attentive servers who seem genuinely happy to explain a dish or check on your wine, and the ambient setting that suits both a casual lunch and a dressed-up dinner. Whether you’re seeking healthy options, vegetarian dishes, or just a few small plates to share over cocktails, the menu adapts effortlessly.
Côte Clifton Village doesn't deliver and doesn’t do takeaway-but that’s the point. It’s the kind of place you come to linger, to chat, to savour. A spot where late-night bites still feel elegant and where the tea selection rivals the coffee (which, by the way, is superb). For locals and visitors alike, it’s the kind of French escape that doesn’t require a flight to Paris-just a short walk through Clifton Village.

Côte is an absolute fave! It’s my go to for really good food and great atmosphere. Can’t get enough of the patchouli hand lotion in the bathroom *wink* Give it a try. I had the butter chicken the last time I was there and will definitely be having that again. A solid 10/10.
We’ve visited this lovely restaurant twice now and both times have been a great experience overall. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff, especially our waitress were friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. The only downside was that my medium rare steak arrived very cold, a bit disappointing given how good everything else was. That said, service was impressively fast both times, and we’ll definitely be back again.
Lovely little restaurant, cosy and atmospheric. The staff were friendly and impressive service, very quick despite being so busy they couldn't accept anyone else! The food was lovely, although steak was a little on the tough side but only fractionally and it still tasted great, the flavours complemented it well.
The food was absolutely amazing, high quality and worth the money! The thing that sets this restaurant apart from others is the service. All the staff were lovely and welcoming, with a unique knowledge of the food, but that absolute best was Mike who went above and beyond! We were celebrating a 26th birthday and Mike brought over a celebratory dessert without us asking as he over heard it was a birthday while taking away our plates!
Found this spot by an impromptu google search looking for a good mimosa for my birthday. What a lovely setting. A few opportunities include consistency in customer centricity; waited a bit to place an order asking the host for service who wasn’t very polite though smiled with others, may be it was because I didn’t really blend in. The waiter was however warm and lovely along with the team who served my meal. The meal was nice, if from SA, almost at a Hussar grill level, with good flavours and a perfectly done steak. They also serve a 2/3 course option which provides good bang for buck. A real treat overall!
